R U OK? Day

Our students and staff gathered in yellow for R U OK day, as we did our last Danjoo assembly for Term 3
We gave out little notes of appreciation, certificates for students who participated in the Prime Minister’s Spelling Bee as well as Literacy Awards and were delighted by wonderful performances by our student who attend Music Rocks Australia.
For the rest of the day, we attempted following the four steps in starting a conversation that could change a life, which includes asking a friend ‘R U OK?’, followed by listening, encourage in taking an action to the conversation, and checking in with our friends every now and then. We also gave out cupcakes to our students who participate in asking their friends ‘R U OK?’ and following the steps
This year’s specific message is “Ask R U OK any day”, reminding us that we do not need a specific day to check in with someone we love, and that if we notice a change in someone, we can always endeavour to be a good friend and great listening to them.

The students were keeping busy during the Naidoc week commemorations, which was filled with a lovely assembly and a day filled with activities!
We had a precinct Naidoc Assembly, hosted by Dianella Secondary College that was held in the gymnasium. The assembly consisted of a wonderful dance performance by the DSC Danjoo Cultural Dancers and acknowledgement song by the DSC Warankga Danjoo, as well as a lovely smoking ceremony after.
Later that week, our students had a joint Naidoc Activity Day with Dianella Primary College, which consisted of learning various first nation activities, such as fire burning, playing various indigenous games, damper making, and a boomerang throwing session.

Bushranger Busy Bee

This year, during our Bushranger Busy Bee session, our whole school was involved in planting, reviving, and caring for our plants and local produce!

In preparation for the day, our students and staff collected food scraps that were safe for our worm farms too feed so that our soils were nutrient dense and ready for our plants. The students, with the guidance of our staff, dug up the garden beds to make way for new soil, then planted produce such as tomato, broccoli, snow pea and more. Not too long before the new harvest comes along!

We held our School Ball on the 24th of April, where our students came down and had a wonderful time.

They polished up in their dresses and suits, had delicious food, and even got to the dancefloor for a dance with their friends.

Congratulations to Savanah, who showed her moves and grooves and won the dance award, as well as Kyle and Isabella, who won best dressed during the night.

Reconciliation Week 2023

Each year Reconciliation Week runs from 27 May to 3 June, it is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia.

On Friday, June 2 we held a Reconciliation Curriculum Day. Rooms 4, 5 and 8, along with staff, attended the Walk for Reconciliation at Kaarta Koomba (Kings Park), whilst the rest of the school participated in cultural activities such as damper making. It was a wonderful time for all students to learn more about Aboriginal culture, history and achievements and discuss ways in which we could contribute to achieving reconciliation.
