Planting for the Future

Early mornings and fresh air marked the beginning of another rewarding year with the Bush Care Program, in partnership with the City of Stirling, where some of our students and staff headed to Cottonwood Reserve

Guided by Patxi and Chanel, we followed a thoughtful planting plan to ensure each new addition found its ideal place in the landscape. Some plants proved reluctant to leave their containers but with patience and care, they were safely settled into the soil.

Starting the day with hands in the earth and a focus on restoration was a meaningful way to continue our ongoing efforts, helping the local environment flourish for the future.

Mini Woolies Opening Ceremony

We had a very excited to announce the launch of the Dianella Mini Woolies on our site at Dianella Secondary College Education Support Centre! 💚

The Mini Woolies in Dianella is set to transform the learning journey ofyoung people with disabilities. Woolworths and Dianella Secondary College Education Support Centrehave teamed up to create an immersive simulated supermarket space to practise retail and general life skills.
Rather than a fully operational store, a converted classroom has been set up to simulate the operations of an actual Woolworths supermarket, with baskets for fresh food, shelving for groceries, ticketing, signage and Woolworths branded uniforms, as well as two registers. The site will serve as an accessible learning space for students with disabilities to learn vital
skills in literacy, numeracy, communication and register operations; and building confidence, independence and preparedness for the future.

We are appreciative of the initiative by the Woolworths group and Fujitsu for allowing a mix of an immersive and engaging learning space and in-store technology to produce a positive difference in our students.

Thank you to the local Woolworths store team at Dianella for being with us every step of the way and training our students – We cannot wait to utilise the site!

Dianella’s Got Talent

We held our annual Dianella’s Got Talent last term, where all our students performed all sorts of different acts.

We had wonderful singers, exciting dances, aspiring musicians, and even an Elvis impersonator during the performances! Our students prepared and worked hard toward rehearsing for their performances and had a minute to shine on stage. Our students and staff were incredibly impressed by and proud of the talents of the performers and their dedication to their craft.

Thank you to our lovely students for their hard work in preparing for Dianella’s Got Talent and to the staff who have coordinated the event.

R U OK? Day

Our students and staff gathered in yellow for R U OK day, as we did our last Danjoo assembly for Term 3
We gave out little notes of appreciation, certificates for students who participated in the Prime Minister’s Spelling Bee as well as Literacy Awards and were delighted by wonderful performances by our student who attend Music Rocks Australia.
For the rest of the day, we attempted following the four steps in starting a conversation that could change a life, which includes asking a friend ‘R U OK?’, followed by listening, encourage in taking an action to the conversation, and checking in with our friends every now and then. We also gave out cupcakes to our students who participate in asking their friends ‘R U OK?’ and following the steps
This year’s specific message is “Ask R U OK any day”, reminding us that we do not need a specific day to check in with someone we love, and that if we notice a change in someone, we can always endeavour to be a good friend and great listening to them.
