City of Stirling Bush Care Program

Our school is taking part in the Bush Care Program held by the City of Stirling!
The Bushranger Cadet Leaders met with Conservation Field Technician, Imogen, and Environmental Education Officer, Chanel, to scout the area for our upcoming planting day and observed the variations of bushland density within Cottonwood Reserve! 🌳
They also removed the stakes from a previous year’s planting as the trees had grown to a height where they could support themselves.
After the observation, our students went back to Cottonwood Reserve to plant for the area’s rehabilitation.
They geared up with their boots, hats, and green thumbs as they worked together to manage and preserve our local bushlands and planted plenty of trees that will grow sturdy in due time! A very well done to all the students involved that morning, and a big thank you to the City of Stirling for organising the program, and to the staff involved.

Reconciliation Week 2024

Kaya everyone, here’s what we got up to in celebration of Reconciliation Week.
Our Dianella Education Precinct hosted the 2024 National Reconciliation Virtual Online Breakfast to start of National Reconciliation week. The event brought together students, staff, and community members to celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture in Australia and foster reconciliation.
Our appreciation and gratitude extend towards:
Councillor Andrea Creado, representing the City of Stirling, who shared her insights on acknowledging our heritage, honouring our traditional elders, and highlighting the city’s initiative for reconciliation.
The Warangka Dandjoo choir from Dianella Secondary College, along with performers from our school and virtual choir from Dianella Primary College, for their wonderful performance.
The staff and students from Dianella Secondary College for the full breakfast featuring native Australian ingredients.
The staff and students who have made this successful event possible.
Our esteemed guests for attending.
We also held morning assembly, where our Aboriginal and Islander Education Officer, Ms Voss, presented a speech to emphasise the importance of teaching the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture and building and positive relationships between indigenous and non-indigenous Australians to move towards the goal of reconciliation in Australia. She set an interactive scene, where our students closed their eyes and visualised what it was like for our elders.
As the weather cleared up and the sun came out, our school was able to continue the tradition, and held our Reconciliation Walk around our school grounds. We had our Student Councillors and Bushranger Representatives hold our Reconciliation Flag, made by our students and staff, and lead the walk.
After the walk, we held a sausage sizzle. The students enjoyed a hotdog and juice as we concluded the event.

STEM Walkthrough 2024

We held a STEM Walkthrough, where our students visited each other’s classes to look at the STEM projects that they have been working on this term. The students and staff all had a chance to present and watch their peer’s projects.
Our students never cease to amaze us with their creativity and intellect, as we explored projects ranging from interactive paths, stop-motion videos, puppets, and more!
Please feel free to browse through the amazing projects that our students have worked hard on.

Bushranger Busy Bee

This year, during our Bushranger Busy Bee session, our whole school was involved in planting, reviving, and caring for our plants and local produce!

In preparation for the day, our students and staff collected food scraps that were safe for our worm farms too feed so that our soils were nutrient dense and ready for our plants. The students, with the guidance of our staff, dug up the garden beds to make way for new soil, then planted produce such as tomato, broccoli, snow pea and more. Not too long before the new harvest comes along!

School Ball 2024

We held our School Ball on the 24th of April, where our students came down and had a wonderful time.

They polished up in their dresses and suits, had delicious food, and even got to the dancefloor for a dance with their friends.

Congratulations to Savanah, who showed her moves and grooves and won the dance award, as well as Kyle and Isabella, who won best dressed during the night.

Reconciliation Week 2023

Each year Reconciliation Week runs from 27 May to 3 June, it is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia.

On Friday, June 2 we held a Reconciliation Curriculum Day. Rooms 4, 5 and 8, along with staff, attended the Walk for Reconciliation at Kaarta Koomba (Kings Park), whilst the rest of the school participated in cultural activities such as damper making. It was a wonderful time for all students to learn more about Aboriginal culture, history and achievements and discuss ways in which we could contribute to achieving reconciliation.

National Reconciliation Week Virtual Breakfast

On May 25th , we were proud to take part in the National Reconciliation Week Virtual Breakfast hosted by Reconciliation WA. The event, hosted by Dianella Secondary College, showcased the culinary talents of the Dookerniny Garbala Cooking Class from the Secondary College who used native ingredients such as lemon myrtle, wattle seed and finger limes to create a fantastic menu. A performance from students at the Secondary College was a wonderful opening before guests turned to the screens to watch the virtual presentations from Reconciliation WA.

National Reconciliation Week (NRW) provides an opportunity for Australians to discover and appreciate our shared histories, cultures, and accomplishments. It encourages individuals to contemplate their role in fostering reconciliation in Australia. NRW takes place from 27 May to 3 June, marking two crucial milestones in the reconciliation process: the significant 1967 referendum and the influential High Court Mabo decision. As we progress, reconciliation should become ingrained in the thoughts, sentiments, and deeds of all Australians, building a nation fortified by respectful connections between the broader Australian community and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples
